World Cup 2014 - 42 days to go: Players - Andres Iniesta
Andres Iniesta is the 29-year-old central midfielder World Cup winner for Spain who will be hoping to pass Spain to another title along with midfield partner Xavi using the Tiki-taka short passing system that has brought Barcelona and Spain such success in recent years.
Iniesta learned his trade through the Barcelona youth academy La Masia and has remained in the club ever since, gaining 327 caps and scoring 32 goals in the first team. For Spain he is closing in on the 100 cap milestone and currently holds 95 caps and has scored 11 goals.
The midfield playmaker has an embarrassment of riches when it comes to awards and honours including World and European success at club and international level and FIFA World XI on five occasions.
Iniesta originally started out as a defensive midfielder but quickly progressed to an attacking midfield role due to his skill and inventiveness, becoming a first team player aged just 18. Andreas Iniesta will no doubt feature strongly at the FIFA World Cup in Brazil as one of the central figures for Spain’s attempt to retain the title they won in South Africa.
