Villa vows to keep his cool

Spain striker David Villa has promised to keep his cool after treading a narrow disciplinary line during Spain's 2-0 victory over Honduras.

Villa scored both goals and missed a penalty in a vital Group H victory for the European champions but was lucky to avoid a red card after the referee missed his second-half slap on Honduras defender Emilio Izaguirre.

"It's not something that I am proud of. They're just instincts, in this case I wasn't expecting him to tread on me," explained the Barcelona striker.

"I was merely standing there and the reaction was to stick my arm out. I'll try in future to keep my cool."

FIFA could still use retrospective video evidence to ban the striker from Friday's final group game against Chile.
