Spain extends winter transfer window by one day

The Spanish Football Federation (RFEF) on Wednesday announced that it was extending its winter transfer window by one day to January 31, 2012, to fall in line with other European countries.

"The Professional Football League (LFP) pointed out to the federation that, as the window in other countries closes on January 31, it would penalise Spanish clubs to close the window the day before," read a statement from the RFEF.

"The federation, sharing the reasons given and considering that they did not contravene FIFA's rules, therefore decided to extend the transfer window until January 31, 2012."

Previously, the winter transfer window in Spain ran from January 2-30.
