Real still keen on Fabregas
06 May 2008 - 10:19:52
Real Madrid president Ramon Calderon has reiterated his desire to sign Arsenal midfielder Cesc Fabregas as the Gunners prepare for a possible exodus of players this summer.
Real, who clinched their 31st La Liga triumph on Sunday, have been linked with the Spain international in the past, but Calderon says he is waiting for Fabregas to initiate any possible transfer.
"Every coach likes Fabregas, but my policy is that it has to be the player who makes the first step for the signing because we don't want conflicts with any team," said Calderon.
"Something nice about Cesc is that he is Spanish and this is one of my objectives - to make Real Madrid more Spanish."
Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has already lost Mathieu Flamini, who has penned a four-year deal with AC Milan, while there are fresh doubts about Alex Hleb's future.
The Belarus international is believed to have agreed a four-year deal with Internazionale, while Jens Lehmann is also leaving the Emirates Stadium this summer.
