FIFA await report on Villa

FIFA will wait to receive the referee's report from the World Cup match between Spain and Honduras before deciding whether to take any retrospective action against David Villa.

The new Barcelona recruit scored twice, hit the crossbar and missed a penalty against the Central Americans but also struck Honduras defender Emilio Izaguirre in the face as they waited for a free-kick to be taken.

Referee Yuichi Nishimura took no action but FIFA will need to establish whether he would have booked or dismissed Villa if he had seen the incident. A spokesman said: "At the moment we have no information on David Villa. We will wait for the referee's report."

Villa told Spanish broadcaster Canal Plus: "It's not something that I am proud of. They're just instincts, in this case I wasn't expecting (Izaguirre) to tread on me.

"I was merely standing there and the reaction was to stick my arm out. I'll try in future to keep my cool."
