Alba was born in Barcelona and started his career in the youth setup with the Spanish giants but was released by the club in 2005.

After playing in the lower leagues in Spain he got his break, where he signed for Valencia and finished his education.

He helped the reserves earn promotion from the fourth division in 2007-08 and made his professional debut the following season, playing at Gimnastic. Alba made his La Liga debut in September 2009, he then started in two Europa group games against Lille and Slavia Prague.

Due to injuries he played a lot of the 2009-10 season as a left back performing consistently. In 2010-11 Alba battled Jeremy Mathieu for the left back position and made 26 league appearances scoring twice. Alba was used more regularly this season making 32 league appearances scoring twice and assisting 7 times over the season.

Alba is being tracked by Barcelona and Manchester United and this tournament is his chance to prove he is a top class left back.
