Del Bosque given Spain assurances

Coach Vicente Del Bosque will not lose his job even if Spain fail to qualify from the group stages at the World Cup.

The reigning European champions and pre-tournament second favourites opened their campaign with a shock 1-0 defeat to expected Group H whipping boys Switzerland on Wednesday.

They must now take on Honduras and Chile knowing that another slip-up could result in them failing to reach the last 16.

"I believe in this national team, a side that has obtained some excellent results," explained Spanish Football Federation president Angel Maria Villar.

"There is no issue with Del Bosque because he has a contract we renewed in December and because there is total confidence in him,

"Whatever happens at the World Cup, Del Bosque will continue as coach. I'm very sure about that."
