Walsh demands defensive improvement

Free-falling Southport need to tighten up defensively, according to boss Mike Walsh.

The Sandgrounders' poor run continued on Tuesday as they lost 3-1 at Barnet and Walsh's side are hovering perilously close to the relegation zone after a dreadful run.

To add to the Southport boss' woes Lee Ashcroft and Earl Davis are expected to be sidelined after sustaining knee injuries at Underhill.

Ian Nolan, Steve Pickford, Steve Soley and Peter Thomson all missed the midweek game with the Bees.

"We are not having a problem in scoring at the moment but I am obviously concerned about the number of goals we are conceding," Walsh told the Lancashire Evening Post.

"We have let in four goals in the last four matches from corners and we need to tighten up.

"We must make it a lot harder for teams to score against us."
