Southport manager Mike Walsh was ecstatic to have seen his side record a first home win in the Nationwide Conference since November, following a 2-1 victory over Barnet.
Goals from Lee Ashcroft and Lee Mulvaney gave the Sandgrounders the points and eased relegation fears that had been growing at Haig Avenue.
After the triumph, Walsh told the Lancashire Evening Post: "Everyone realised how important the game was.
"We have been in a position where we haven't been winning games despite our effort being good.
"But it happened for us here. Barnet are a big strong side, they threw balls into the box and we coped well.
"I am trying to build a footballing side but one that can compete."
