Tilson takes punt on Spencer

Former Everton striker Scott Spencer has joined Southend United on a free transfer.

The 21-year-old moves to Roots Hall on a six-month contract with the option of a further year after previously being on non-contract terms at Rochdale.

Shrimpers boss Steve Tilson said of his latest acquisition: "He has a good appetite and impressed in both the game he played with the reserves and in training.

"He's hungry to do well and we've given him an opportunity so it's worked well both ways. It's certainly worth a punt."
