    Tilson pleased for Freddy

    05 Jul 2007 - 13:38:22

Southend United manager Steve Tilson believes it was the right time for Freddy Eastwood to leave Roots Hall after confirming the striker had moved to Wolves for an undisclosed fee.

Eastwood, who was also wanted by Charlton Athletic, scored an impressive 65 goals in his three seasons with the Shrimpers following his switch from Grays Athletic.

Tilson has no hard feelings about the 23-year-old's exit, telling the club's official website: "The time was right.

"He wants to play at a higher level, with a side that could be pushing for the Premier League next season and we've done the right thing in letting him progress his career.

"He's done a fantastic job for the club and been instrumental in our rise through the leagues.

"His goalscoring record speaks for itself and, when you consider the price we paid, it is a fantastic return for what at the time was a gamble.

"I don't think the fans will be surprised he has left and I'm sure they'll all join me in wishing Freddy all the best."
