Tilson after Exeter City
Published: 15 Mar 2010 - 13:21:20
A point each kept both sides firmly entrenched in the boottom four after Saturday's goalless draw at Roots Hall, and both managers gave their view after the game. Tilson: 'We have to keep encouraging what we've got now' Blues boss Steve Tilson couldn't fault the effort of the players, they didn't let in a goal which has been a rare event lately, but it's scoring them at the nother end which is keeping him up at night. Tilly spoke to www.southendunited.co.uk: "We just need to put the ball in the back of the net. Exeter had some half chances and so did we, but neither side took theirs and that is why we are both down the bottom of the table. As a team, we defended really well and looked solid."On who we have left in the squad the Shrimpers manager made it clear we must get behind them.Tilly continued: "Lee Barnard scored 17 goals for us and if you take that away, it's a big ask for the strikers here. The likes of Leeds and Norwich have a lot of fire power. We only have Vernon, Matt Paterson and Scott Spencer; that is what we have got and that is what we have to work with. We have to keep encouraging them now."So a certain amount of sang froid is creeping into Tilson's comments.Tilly told www.echo-news.co.uk: "It's going to be tough for us to avoid the drop. We have 11 games left, six at home and five away, and we need five wins and a couple of draws from that so it's a big ask." Tisdale: If Grecian boss Paul Tisdale was unhappy with just a point he didn't show it and only had good words for the 400-odd fans who made the 500 mile round trip. Tisdale told www.exterrcityfc.co.uk: "We had really wonderful support, I haven't seen much better. It was just a shame they didn't get the delight of the goal Stanno scored which didn't stand. It was fantsstic and the whole Exeter performance, from the supporters to the team was positive, committed and 100% working towards the necessary. It was a pleasure to be there to be honest."
