Tilly hopes: 'If Scannell stays with Shrimpers he'll have the opportunity to play a lot more games'
Blues boss Steve Tilson has confirmed that a new two year contract has been offered to winger Damien Scannell while he's no closer to finding a new assistant. Tilson: 'There is nothing to report on a new assistant at the moment' With supporters wondering who will still be with the club come pre-season training in July, out of contract Shrimpers winger Damien Scannell was certainly one of the players that everyone connected with the club was hoping would stay.Well,Tilly told www.echo-news.co.uk: "I think everything is close to be sorted out with Damo now which is good news for us. It's a two year deal we've offered him and it will be great if he signs it because he was playing really well last season before picking up his injury. It was the best form he had shown since signing and I think he realises that if he stays with us then he will have the opportunity to play a lot more games." Scannell joined Blues from non league Eastleigh in January 2008 and has gone on to make 58 appearances for the club, scoring two goals. The winger, who has also appeared as a striker, suffered a nightmare start to last season as he was hit by a number of injuries and swine flu before recovering to become a permanent figure in the side. Tilly continued: "There is nothing to report on that at the moment."
