Struggling Barrett set for op
22 Feb 2007 - 10:48:57
Southend United defender Adam Barrett is scheduled to have an operation in a bid to end his injury problems.
The 27-year-old has played through the pain barrier this season but, after seeing a specialist, has decided surgery will be his best option.
The ex-Plymouth Argyle and Bristol Rovers star, who has suffered since November with an abdominal and groin injury, broke down in training last week.
"Adam saw one specialist and they recommended complete rest for four weeks to clear the problem up," boss Steve Tilson told the club's official website.
"However, we decided to get a second opinion and they diagnosed Adam with a hernia injury that will require surgery.
"That's obviously a blow for Adam, but the good news is he'll probably make a playing return in about five weeks, so it could be a quicker route back to the first team in the long run."
