Spencer Sturrock at Sincil: 'There was no handshake, but it was amicable'
Imps of Lincoln City 2 Southend United 1: Lincoln City beat the Shrimpers. No new photo, hopefully the last time we have to hear from him! There wasn't much to laugh about Saturday for the travelling Southend support in the 2-1 defeat at Sincil Bank Saturday, but former striker Scott Spencer coming on and missing a sitter at least raised a smile.Screech told www.thisislincolnshire.co.uk: "I think I was a bit too anxious and I wanted to get out on the pitch. There is no excuse, it's nothing to do with it being against Southend, I was back-pedalling and I needed to get my head over the ball. But these things happen. The main thing is that we got three points and I am buzzing for the lads and for the management, for whom we were desperate to get the win."While spending most of the game on the bench, where he has been since he joined Tilly and Brush at Lincoln, he had plenty of time to say hi to current Blues boss Paul Sturrock who he had charmingly called an 'idiot' after Luggy had decided the former Everton boy was just not good enough. Spencer continued: "No, there was no handshake, but it was amicable. When I looked his way, he looked away and vice-versa, so there was no awkwardness."Sounds like it to me, then again Screech was never the breakest spark and he continues to show it.Still, in the end, the shell-shocked Shrimpers faithful could only raise a few token boos when the twat came on. Spencer concluded: "I got a bit of stick from some of the Southend fans too, but that is what football is all about. I don't think they were too happy with some of the things I said when I left, but my comments were never directed at them and they were great to me during my time there. You thrive on the stick. You don't get that kind of thing in any other profession. It is a buzz. The Southend fans were great on Saturday and that also brought the best out of our supporters who really got behind the team."And hopefully that's the last we hear from young Scott for quite a while.
