Southend United's Peter Gilbert prepares for Bradford City

Blues left back Peter Gilbert returned from injury last week to play an hour against Oxford in the reserves, his next game was Molineux and Wolves! Now it's back to the league and off to Bradford, where he has some history! Gilbert: 'The longer we go on the stronger we will get' Left back Peter Gilbert having recovered from his ankle problem, made his first team debut for Southend in the Carling Cup second round defeat at Wolverhampton, and now looks forward to returning to league action against Spud Taylor's Bradford City.In fact the Shrimpers defender has some bad history at Valley Parade as on his last visit there he tore his cruciate ligament!Gilbert told Blues Insider: "The last time I played at Bradford I injured my cruciate and was out for nine months so I don't have good memories from playing there. So from that point of view I am looking forward to putting that ghost to bed."Peter talked about how good it was to get his first 90-plus minutes under his belt at Wolves and plans to continue the improvement in West Yorkshire after the debacle against Port Vale last Saturday.Gilbert continued: "Everyone was very annoyed after Saturday and we had a real heart to heart as that was the first time we have really let ourselves down. Port Vale have been together for 18 months and we have probably been together 18 days. We have to prepare for Friday now and hopefully we have given the fans something to shout about. The longer we go on the stronger we will get, starting against Bradford City."And on a personal note the former Northampton player made it very clear Roots Hall is now the place he considers home.Peter concluded: "I want to be at Southend and give everything I possibly can and I will be working as hard as I can to make that happen."
