Shrimpers to fight amount

Published: 09 Feb 2010 - 23:20:30

Southend have issued a statement declaring that the club hope to be refunded £200,000 by HMRC.Following a payment of £2.25million to the HMRC in November last year, the Shrimpers disputed the amount paid, claiming it to be inaccurate by a figure in the region of £200,000.This became the subject of further action by HMRC, with them serving the club a winding up order at Christmas, as well as the club submitting an appeal to the tribunals service with a cross claim. However, Southend remain confident that the issue will now be settled in the club's favour and in the meantime will continue to make payments on the due dates the agreed when settling their arrears.
