Shrimpers seal midfield deal

Southend United have agreed a deal with Preston North End to sign loan midfielder Alan McCormack on a permanent basis.

The 22-year-old Irishman helped the Shrimpers clinch a crucial 2-1 win at home to Southampton at the weekend, scoring his first goal in five outings since his arrival from Deepdale.

Assistant manager Paul Brush told the club's official website: "Everything has been sorted out and Alan will be staying with us.

"It's all done and dusted and Alan is someone we have high hopes for.

"He has a lot to prove in the game and should be regarded as a youngster working his way through, but we have already seen what he is capable of."
