Southend United have signed Sunderland striker Roy O'Donovan on an initial month's loan.
The deal for the 24-year-old Irishman will be extended to a full three months if O'Donovan impresses at Roots Hall.
Shrimpers boss Steve Tilson told The Echo: "We looked at Roy two years ago when he was at Cork City.
"He did really well back then, but at the time because he was grabbing headlines, bigger clubs overtook us.
"We have been trying to bring in a forward with pace and Roy fits that bill perfectly. He offers us something we don't have.
"He had a good goalscoring pedigree at Cork, but it hasn't quite worked out at Sunderland for him."
