Shrimpers land Barnard

Southend United manager Steve Tilson has improved his strike options by snapping up the Spurs forward Lee Barnard for an undisclosed fee.

The 23-year-old has penned a contract that will keep him at Roots Hall until the end of the 2009-10 campaign.

Barnard has been a regular scorer for Spurs' reserve side but has struggled to break in to the first team at White Hart Lane, making only three substitute appearances for the club.

He has a wealth of experience with clubs on loan though, playing for Exeter City, Stevenage Borough, Leyton Orient, Northampton Town and Crewe Alexandra in the last five years.
