Shrimpers have a Friend in George
The 21-year-old, who has joined the Shrimpers on a one-month loan deal from Premier League new boys Wolves, was a second-half substitute in Steve Tilson's side's 3-2 victory at Brighton. Friend replaced the injured Johnny Herd and the defender is now hoping to become a first-team regular. "I only arrived the day before the Brighton game and wasn't sure of all the players' names during the game," Friend told the Southend Echo. "It was a great first game to play in and I'm delighted to be here at Southend. I've only heard good things about the manager Steve Tilson and the players." On the possibility of extending his loan, Friend added: "It depends on what happens here and at Wolves during the month but if I do well here and Wolves don't want me back then I would be happy to stay."
