Shrimpers fans plan protest
03 Sep 2009 - 11:15:21
Fuming Southend United fans will call for the dismissal of chief executive Geoffrey King during the local derby with Leyton Orient.
Shrimpers supporters cannot believe how the club has managed to get into dire financial straits and were left aghast when King recently criticised Alex Revell, who was then sent out on loan to Swindon Town.
United's squad has been cut to just 16, while former defender Spencer Prior has still not been paid for his benefit match in May.
One of the protest organisers, Gareth Pummery, said: "We're very unhappy with the way the club's being run.
"We're also unhappy with Geoffrey King. He doesn't serve the club well and misleads fans into thinking everything's OK.
"He bad-mouthed our supporters after the game against Leicester City last season and players who are putting in a lot of effort, like Alex Revell, plus, on top of that, there's Prior not being paid and a few other things too."
