Shrimpers draft in Federici

Southend United have snapped up Reading's Australian goalkeeper Adam Federici on a month's loan.

The 23-year-old has been drafted in to cover for an injury to Steve Mildenhall, having recently returned from international duty at the Olympics.

Federici told the club's official website: "I need games and Southend United is a great club, so I am looking forward to starting against Leyton Orient on Friday.

"Over the last few years I have been lacking playing regular football and I just need a few matches under my belt to help my career along.

"Marcus Hahnemann has been at Reading for a long time and played a lot of games, so it is hard to displace someone who is performing week in, week out.

"At some point I needed to go away and play a few games to come back stronger and even more determined. Hopefully I can do that and help Southend along the way."
