Shrimpers close on targets

Southend United boss Steve Tilson is confident of securing the signatures of some of his transfer targets in the coming weeks.

The Shrimpers expect to lose star striker Freddy Eastwood before the start of the new season, while experienced defenders Efe Sodje and Spencer Prior have already left Roots Hall.

But Tilson has revealed he is closing in on some players on his wish-list.

He said: "I've been away for a couple of weeks but I've been speaking with agents, the chairman and (number two) Paul Brush every day.

"We've only missed out on one target so far - Paul Hayes - and I'm hopeful we can bring the right players to Southend.

"Ideally that will be by the time we report back for pre-season training in two weeks' time."

So far this summer, only Ebbsfleet United's prolific striker Charlie MacDonald has moved to the Blues.
