Sawyer hopes for extension

Southend United loanee Lee Sawyer is hoping to extend his stay at Roots Hall until the end of the season.

The teenage midfielder has made an impressive start to his three-month spell with the Shrimpers after netting twice in three appearances.

"If the manager wants it to happen then of course I'd like to stay for longer," said Sawyer.

"I came here to play first-team football and that's what's happened.

"I'd happily stay here until the end of the season as long as that's what the manager wants as well, so hopefully I can keep doing well."
