Maher blasts opposing skipper

Southend United skipper Kevin Maher blasted his Colchester counterpart Karl Duguid after the pair were involved in an altercation during a fiery Essex derby at the weekend.

Maher was dismissed shortly after half-time in his side's 3-0 defeat for an off-the-ball clash with Duguid.

"How can a fellow professional do that?" asked Maher referring to the incident.

"It's just embarrassing. He was holding his face and I'd not even touched him.

"I spoke to one or two of their players and they said he's the only one in their team who would react like that, and I think that says a lot. It's a sad reflection of the game."
