Maher appeal fails

Southend United captain Kevin Maher will be suspended for the next three matches after his appeal against the red card he was handed in Saturday's bad-tempered local derby with Colchester United was rejected.
The Shrimpers star saw red after becoming involved in an off-the-ball altercation with Karl Duguid shortly after half-time.
The FA's Disciplinary Commission met on Tuesday to discuss the appeal, but rejected Southend's claim for wrongful dismissal.
Maher will miss the Championship games against Barnsley, Wolves and Southampton.
