MacDonald move edges closer

Southend United strikerCharlie MacDonald is on the verge of leaving Roots Hall after the Shrimpers agreed terms with an unnamed League Two side for the 27-year-old.

The former Crawley Town forward is now in discussions with the club about personal terms, with a view to completing a permanent switch.

Southend recently rejected an offer from Brentford for the player, while Cambridge have also failed with a £25,000 bid for MacDonald.

The Southwark-born forward moved to Southend from Ebbsfleet last summer but scored only five goals for the club in the 2007-08 campaign.
