MacDonald makes Shrimpers move

Southend United manager Steve Tilson has made Ebbsfleet United's prolific striker Charlie MacDonald his first signing of the summer.

The 26-year-old moves to Roots Hall on a free transfer after scoring 42 goals in only 69 appearances for the Conference side formerly known as Gravesend & Northfleet.

He netted 27 times last season as his club just missed out on a play-off place.

MacDonald started his career as a trainee at Charlton Athletic, and had loan spells with Cheltenham Town, Torquay United and Colchester United before going on to play for Margate, Stevenage Borough and Crawley Town.
