Luggy likes Liam's attitude: 'That's exactly what you want to see from your forward'

Accrington Stanley 1 Southend united 2: Southend United manager Paul Sturrock felt his spot-kick scoring striker Liam Dickenson had shown the right stuff in grabbing the opening goal in the Shrimpers 2-1 away win at Accrington Stanley. Sturrock: 'We should've been three up by the time they equalised' Blues boss Paul Sturrock was pleased that the striker he selected over rested legend Neil Harris, who came on later as a sub, one Liam Dickinson, decided to step up and take the spot-kick in only the opening minute after missing his first penalty in the shoot-out defeat to Leyton Orient Tuesday evening in the Carling Cup. The succesful conversion saw the Shrimpers on their way to a 2-1 League Two win at Accrington Stanley Saturday afternoon, and a maximum points start to the season! Sturrock told www.echo-news.co.uk: “That's exactly the attitude you want to see from your forward. But I was pleased with the whole team because last season we got trampled all over when we came here. I told the players not to let that happen again and they didn't." Tough talk Luggs, but it wasn't all smiles as the canny Scot made clear. Sturrock continued: "I'm delighted to have won but we should've been three up by the time they equalised. Ryan Leonard and Ryan Hall both had good chances to score and Kane Ferdinand went close too before Accrington equalised with their first shot on target. That's football at the end of the day but I'm pleased with the three points even though we do need to start being more clinical because we can't afford to keep on missing these kinds of chances.” So where will the Shrimpers finish this season?
