Laurent inks Shrimpers deal

Southend United striker Francis Laurent has been rewarded for some fine displays in the last three months by being offered a new two-and-a-half year deal.

The 22-year-old Frenchman joined the Shrimpers on a free transfer in August and has gone on to score four goals in six starts and four appearances from the substitute's bench.

Boss Steve Tilson told the club's official website: "Francis has done really well for us and he deserves his new deal.

"At the time I said it was a bit of a punt but it has come off and hopefully he can now go from strength to strength."

Meanwhile, United are expected to complete the signing of Jean-Francois Christophe later this week.
