Laurent after Brentford and before Brighton
Blues striker Francis Laurent scored a brace against the Bees Tuesday evening but was upset it wasn't enough to grab the win his side desperatly needed to avoid the dreaded drop. Laurent: 'Brentford were there for the taking' Luckily, Tilly didn't take the S24 preview advice to not start with the frustrating Frenchman, who, like the match itself for the Shrimpers, had a game of two halves. The second bringing him a rare double, but sadly for the home side, now five points from safety with just four games left, it didn't bring the victory they knew was needed.Laurent told Blues Insider: "It felt good scoring the two goals but it was disappointing in the end not to have won the match. At the moment it's really important for us to be winning matches so drawing them is not much help.Brentford were there for the taking as we had a lot of chances although we didn't play very well in the first half."And the turnaround was set off by a strong Tilly half-time talk, but it could all be too late to avoid relegation to the basement division after five seasons out of it.Francis continued: "He said we have to play better for ourselves, for the gaffer and for the fans, and in the second half we were much, much better. It's going to be a big ask of us (to stay up), but whilst its still possible we still believe, and hopefully we can get the three points we need against Brighton."
