Injury forces Sam back

Southend United have been forced to let loaneeLloyd Sam return to Charlton Athletic after the winger suffered a suspected hernia injury in training.

The 22-year-old has gone back to The Valley for scans, but is expected to be ruled out for the rest of the season.

Sam, who spent a month on loan at Sheffield Wednesday earlier this term, made two substitute appearances for the Shrimpers during his brief spell at Roots Hall.

Sam has made 11 first-team appearances for the Addicks since making his debut as a substitute against Crystal Palace on the final day of the 2004-05 campaign.
