Injury ends Scannell's season

Southend United winger Damian Scannell's season is over after it was confirmed that he broke his fifth metatarsal during the 3-0 win against Walsall.

The 24-year-old had to be substituted after 64 minutes of the Roots Hall clash and a scan has revealed that he faces two months on the sidelines.

"Damian won't require surgery," said Shrimpers physio John Stannard. "It's not displaced and will heal on its own given time but, unfortunately, it looks like he won't play again this season.

"The doctor has put him in a walking boot and it's a case of him now just waiting for his body to repair."
