Hammers recall Stanislas

Southend United have been dealt a blow with the loss of winger Junior Stanislas who has been recalled from his loan spell by West Ham United.

The 19-year-old had been at Roots Hall for six weeks, scoring three times in nine outings for the Shrimpers.

"Junior did well in the match he played in and we're grateful to West Ham for allowing him out on loan," manager Steve Tilson told Southend's official website.

"We've a few weeks left in the transfer window and hopefully we can add a few more faces to the squad in that time."

Tilson is facing a player shortage as his team lie in 16th place in League One.

His squad is threadbare as Alan McCormack suffered an injury and Peter Clarke was sent off in Saturday's 3-1 loss at Stockport.

Tilson told BBC Essex: "That's two senior players out and we're a young side as it is.

"To have those two players out of the side is a massive blow and without a doubt they will be missed."
