Freddy keen on Wales call
05 Apr 2007 - 14:32:46
Southend United striker Freddy Eastwood has confirmed his interest in representing Wales at international level.
The 23-year-old Essex-born striker qualifies for John Toshack's side through his Wales-born grandfather and his agent has been in touch with Football Association of Wales.
"I'm delighted to have been able to prove I qualify for Wales," said Eastwood, who has scored 16 times for the Shrimpers this season.
"I'm just keeping my fingers crossed John Toshack picks me and that I can score goals at international level.
"Of course I'm English, there is no doubt about that, but one side of my ancestry is Welsh, as well, and that means an awful lot to me.
"If that means I get the opportunity to play for Wales, there won't be a prouder person than me."
