Evans targets keeper`s jersey
Published: 02 Sep 2010 - 12:00:37
Rhys Evans wants to establish himself as Southend's first-choice goalkeeper. The 28-year-old joined the Shrimpers from Bristol Rovers in the summer and kept a clean sheet in his first start - the midweek Johnstone's Paint Trophy triumph over Gillingham.Glenn Morris has established himself as number one at Roots Hall, but this is something Evans wants to change. He told BBC Essex: "I don't think I could have done much more (in the Gillingham game) so it's obviously up to the manager."I'm trying to impress and I want to do well. I was very disappointed not to start the season as I thought I'd done enough in pre-season."Glenn's done pretty well, but if I get an opportunity I've got to try and take it."
