Clarke backs survival bid

Southend United defender Peter Clarke is hopeful that the Shrimpers can avoid relegation from the Championship.

Steve Tilson's side are currently third from bottom, but are unbeaten in their last four games as they mount a serious survival bid.

Clarke told the Southend Standard: "We're all chipping in with goals now and I think that's made a big difference.

"Earlier on in the season we were relying too heavily on Freddy Eastwood. If he didn't score then we didn't score, but that isn't the case anymore.

"I think everyone in the team has got a goal now and that's obviously better for the team. We all think we're going to stay up."
