Blues fail with striker moves

Southend United boss Steve Tilson has admitted defeat in his efforts to bolster his strikeforce with loan signings.

Tilson was hoping to sign a striker in a bid to help their late charge for the play-offs, but two unnamed frontmen have rejected loan moves to Roots Hall.

"I have tried to get two centre-forwards in and the chairman has given me the blessing to do that," he told the club's official website.

"One is based in the Championship and one is from our own league. They are both proven strikers.

"These two fitted the bill, but there is nothing we can do about their decision. I don't think anything will happen now."
