Winger Kevin Betsy has left Bristol City to join Southend United for a nominal fee, signing a two-year contract at Roots Hall.
The 30-year-old was a target for several clubs this summer, but has opted to try his luck with the Shrimpers after talks with manager Steve Tilson.
He told the club's official website: "A few sides in League One and League Two showed some interest, but for me it was coming to see the manager and hearing his ethos which suited me.
"In any walk of life you have to have a relationship with the people you work with and hopefully we can all gel well.
"The manager is very highly regarded and I have a lot of respect for him and what he has achieved in the game so far.
"Now I have come in, I am just looking to do very well for him and the club."
