We're lacking belief - Sturrock

Boss Paul Sturrock admitted there is a crisis of confidence within his dressing room after Southend's FA Cup exit to Macclesfield. The first-round tie could not be settled after 210 minutes of football, with Tuesday night`s replay at Roots Hall finishing 2-2 after extra time. And it was left for a bizarre winner to clinch a 5-3 shootout victory for Macclesfield as Nat Brown`s decisive spot-kick was initially saved by Glenn Morris before spinning back into the net as the Shrimpers keeper celebrated. Sturrock said: "Penalties are a lottery and literally a 50/50 coin toss. You don't know what's going to happen and it's whether or not you're going to be lucky. We weren't this time and to be honest I think the better team won." He continued: "Too many of our players are lacking in confidence at the moment and we need to regroup. I watched Sunderland lose 5-1 at Newcastle the other week and they've responded by winning three matches in a row and beating Chelsea (3-0 at Stamford Bridge). "We now need to get ourselves going and I've asked my players to go home and look in the mirror and ask themselves whether they did the best job they could."
