Wanderers and Shrimpers stalemate

18 August 2009 23:14
Matt Harrold opened his account to put Wanderers ahead in the 40th minute but Christophe's bullet header on the stroke of half-time earned the Shrimpers their third successive draw.[LNB]Southend started brightly and the unmarked Christophe headed Simon Francis' free-kick into the side-netting in only the second minute.[LNB]Wycombe improved as the half wore on and Harrold put them ahead four minutes before the break, atoning for his earlier miss when he failed to connect with Matt Phillips' cross from seven yards. The 25-year-old striker rose above a static visiting defence to head Phillips' corner past goalkeeper Steve Mildenhall from 10 yards.[LNB]But the unmarked Christophe equalised for Southend in first-half stoppage time with a 12-yard header from Francis' cross, following Franck Moussa's short corner.[LNB]The Shrimpers piled forward after the break but Dougie Freedman somehow headed Moussa's corner over the bar from three yards, before fellow striker Lee Barnard blazed badly over from close range at the death as Wycombe hung on for their first point of the season.[LNB][LNB]
