UPDATE: Poor Peter Gilbert sits out more time for Southend United

30 December 2010 11:49
As the Christmas hols pass by without footy hardly anywhere, spare a thought for Blues full back Peter Gilbert, his suspension goes on into the New Year! Peter Gilbert trains with himself, something he must be getting used to!And still left-back Peter Gilbert doesn't get a game! His red card against Stevenage and subsequent three-match ban must seem a long, long time ago as the various call-offs will now mean he misses Oxford United on New Year's Day as the final game of his suspension. The game at the delightfully named Lamex Stadium took place on Tuesday, November 23rd, so if he's able to take his place in the side at Roots Hall against Cheltenham Town on Bank Holiday Monday, January 3rd in the afternoon, it will be seven weeks since he saw some match action. Let's hope the weather relents. The only positive spin, as the club sinks further into debt, is it does gives the injured players more time to get fit, and further rest on those knocks for players such as Bilel Moshni and Josh Simpson.Check out the weather for the remaining holiday gamesOxford: http://news.bbc.co.uk/weather/forecast/25Southend: http://news.bbc.co.uk/weather/forecast/4280New Year Travel NewsKeep your eyes on the trains here:www.southendunited-mad.co.uk/feat/edw5/happy_holidays_watching_the_shrimpers_over_christmas__new_year_574527/index.shtmlAnd the roads:http://www.bbc.co.uk/travelnews/Blues financial headaches continue:www.southendunited-mad.co.uk/news/tmnw/shrimpers_fixture_pileup_adds_to_financial_fears_613527/index.shtml(Edited from an original S24 article posted on Saturday, December 18th, 2010.)
