United clarify adjournment

Southend have issued a statement to explain the reasons why their winding-up hearing was adjourned on Wednesday. Lawyers for the League Two club were in the high court to hear an application from Charterhouse Commercial Finance to wind the club up. The Shrimpers were given a further month to resolve their debts and are set to return to court on August 11 when they hope to resolve their future. "The reason for this (the adjournment) was that at the court hearing held on July 8 2010 the Judge made an order that the hearing should be postponed," a statement on the club's official website read. "By issuing this order it meant that the petition presented by Charterhouse could not technically be heard. "Funds had been deposited for payment of the Revenue debt and also for the amount due to Charterhouse."
