They presently sit in a pleasant enough fifth position, six points behind the Shrimpers.
Turner told www.shropshirestar.com: “I think we might be looking to bring in another defender before the January transfer window ends but I’m not absolutely desperate for any position. I think we have got a fairly decent squad, one that can see us through to the end of the season. I wouldn’t think there would be anybody new in for the weekend.”
He certainly didn't appreciate his side's defending on New Years Eve after a 3-1 defeat to Bradford City when he was quoted a saying: "The goals were poor goals by any standard and the lead-up to the goals was also poor. The second goal was humiliating for a defence to concede. It was unbelievable."
However, there's no doubt Turner has plenty of options in midfield, including new signing David McAllister from Sheffield United, and the return of former Torquay player Nicky Wroe. Wroe was down to miss the first two months of the new year after breaking two metatarsals in his foot during that loss at the Bantams.
Turner said: “Nicky has surprised me. I thought he was just going to join in the warm-up at the back end of last week. But he finished off the whole session on Thursday and Friday, and he’s fully fit again. It’s almost a luxurious position to be in, with the quality of our midfield players. Matt Richards is playing well at the minute, David McAllister has settled in well, Sean (McAllister) did well at Middlesbrough (in the FA Cup), and we’ve now got Nicky Wroe to come back in so we’re in a strong position there.”
Have to bypass them all then and go wide!
