Tractor boy gets a Shrimpers trial

Ipswich Town left-back Shane O' Connor will play in that hastily arranged Wednesday afternoon practice match, and will surely get more chances to impress Blues boss Paul Sturrock he's worth a deal after a loan period with weekend opponents Port Vale!

O'Connor: A chance to impress Luggy and Coughers this month   The Tractor Boy left-back Shane O’Connor, who can also turn out in midfield, has joined the Shrimpers for a trial. The 21-year-old returned from his one-month loan spell at Port Vale at the weekend without making a first-team appearance for the Valiants.   Ipswich fansite www.twtd.co.uk/ tells us: 'Irish U21 international O’Connor, whose Town contract is up at the end of the season, is very much out of Paul Jewell’s plans with his only appearance under the current manager a 16-minute cameo as a sub in the second leg of the Carling Cup semi-final at Arsenal last January.'   Valiants manager Mickey Adams said at the time:'Shane was available and, with him having a number of Championship games under his belt, we felt it would be a useful addition to the squad. With our current injury situation, I was determined to bolster the squad ahead of the transfer deadline on Thursday evening. I am very pleased to be able to bring in a player of Shane's ability."   Good judge of a player Adams, could be promising, and we certainly need cover in that position with Peter Gilbert losing form, this was a guy selected for the League Team of the Week twice in a row, and Luke Prosser, well, being Luke.   And maybe the Port Vale boss wanted to keep him but hasn't got a say in the matter, a week earlier and O'Connor would have been facing us!: www.southendunited-mad.co.uk    Still need more signings?: www.southendunited-mad.co.uk   S24 is looking to build up it's editorial team, why not join us at the Shrimpers fastest growing unofficial site with up to and over 2,000 hits a day currently this month?   If you have something to say on the present exciting times at Southend United or an idea for a new poll, then click on the link with your article or contact details and we will get in touch, just a few lines will do: www.southendunited-mad.co.uk
