To hell and back with the Blues: 'My aim is to kick on now and get another professional deal'
Southend United striker Kyle Asante is back in the first team squad for the long trip to Accrington Stanley after fighting back from a year out with a ligament injury. Kyle Asante: 'I'm really pleased about being in the first team squad again'The Shrimpers 19-year-old striker Kyle Asante who spent a year out of the game with a cruciate ligament injurt returned to football with a bang Tuesday at Roots Hall when he scored a hat-trick for the Blues Two's in the 4-0 hammering of Luton Town reserves. And he's been rewarded for all that hard work to get back to fitness with a place on the first team coach to take on Accrington Stanley in the League Two clash at the Fraser Eagle Stadium Saturday afternoon. Asante told www.echo-news.co.uk: "I'm really pleased about being in the first team squad again but it was very hard being out injured for so long. For the first few months after I got injured it wasn't too bad. But half way through it became hell. I was having arguments with everyone and I was just so annoyed about not being able to play. At the same time one of my team-mates in the youth side, Davis Abbey, was going through the same thing and we helped each other. I think coming through it all made me a better person and now I want to get my footballing career going again." After the long spell on the sidelines held up the chance of signing a contract with the club, he's hoping everything goes through this time around.Asante continued: "My aim is to kick on now and get another professional deal. The club have been so helpful to me and stuck by me while I was injured so I want to try and repay them and do well. Being in the first team squad this weekend is a step in the direction but I want to keep on doing well and hopefully I can get a few appearances before the end of the season."
