TILLY DELIGHT AT BARNEY STRIKE

Steve Tilson admitted that Lee Barnard's late strike at Brighton was worthy of winning any game. The Blues chief saw Barnard score his second goal with just five minutes remaining and as Theo Robinson went on to add to the scoreline, Southend completed a 3-1 victory. Southend did have a sore note with Steve Mildenhall and Alan McCormack both forced off with injuries, but Tilson again couldn't fault his team's character to battle till the end to bring about a seventh win from nine games. "It was a great time for Barney to score," Steve told Blues World. "It was pleasing to see him score again and his second goal was worthy of winning any game. "If it had been scored at Premier League level, then you would be seeing it on television and in the papers for some time. "It was great to see Barney score again and it was a great win for us at Brighton. "We started the game really well and it was disappointing to concede on the stroke of half time. "Barney has given us the lead and I thought we looked in control. "Brighton came at us in the second half and we had to defend more, but I thought we dealt with that well. "We have picked up yet more injuries, but we have battled on. Mildy has injured his knee and Macca has hurt his groin, but it is too early to tell how bad they are. "They are two big players for us, so hopefully, it won't be too bad. "We showed our character again and we are carrying on our form. "To win seven of our last nine games is fantastic, but we want to carry this on. "We go to Hereford on Saturday and we'll be looking for more of the same to get the three points."
