There's no one there: 'It was a complicated time at Southend United'

Oldham Athletic: The ex-Shrimpers loanee defender from Sunderland Jean-Yves M'Voto is a Latic now and will return to Roots Hall for the first time to play against his old team on Saturday in the FA Cup.

Thought this bloke looked familiar

Former Shrimpers loanee defender Jean-Yves M'Voto is looking forward to returning to Southend for the weekend's FA Cup second round tie for his new club Oldham Athletic.

Hard to believe he's only 23, but the man mountain of a defender, put Ryan Hall in the centre Luggs, was signed for the whole 2009/10 season for the Blues, actually scoring against the Latics in a 2-2 draw at Boundary Park with only two games of that ill-fated campaign left, in fact the result saw the Essex boys relegated back to the fourth tier.

So will he notice the difference, only a couple of years later?

Probably; he may only face midfielder Anthony Grant of the side he played in, the rest have long gone!

M'Voto told http://menmedia.co.uk: "It's good to go back and play against my old-team - I think there’s only Anthony Grant there because everyone else left after the team was relegated. It was a complicated time there because I was injured and things didn't go well for everybody."

However, the 6ft 4 boy may be still in League One with the Latics, but he knows that the Shrimpers will now be a different proposition than the team he left to go back up north.

M'Voto said: "Even though they're in League Two, they are still top of the league and it's going to be a tough game. They're flying - every time they play they either win or draw and the crowd is going to be with them."

Jean-Yves has started in the last four games for Oldham after getting a lucky break, the regular partnership in central defence of Nathan Clarke and Zander Diamond had to be broken up when Clarke was not allowed to be cup-tied by parent club Huddersfield, so he stayed in the side after their JPT win and has seen three victories and a draw!

Latics boss Paul Dickov said: "Jean's taken a while to settle, but in the last couple of weeks he's been bang on."

Sadly, I can still remember that game at Hartlepool in that awful season where Jean-Yves was taken off at half-time with us two down in the first half-hour and the Frenchman had been truly awful.

Before that though, and the injury, he had put in some solid performances, a bit static at times but a real rock, it's a cruel game.
