The future is Pink!: Southend United AGM 2011

20 April 2011 10:26
The Southend United AGM took place Tuesday evening at the Park Lane Hotel and around a couple of hundred shareholders attempted to have their say. Friday not good for messiah's, but they always come backNot much was expected and the delayed Southend AGM duly delivered.Uncle Ron and the boys had the questions asked covered, not that they were pushed to any great extent. Then again, maybe most of the shareholders that attended are just happy to have a club and accept that Chairman Ron Martin might not be the straightest guy out there but he's not going anywhere now so we might as well buckle up and if not enjoy the ride, hang on for dear life and make the best of it! Sorry Craig, you've just got this one wrongHowever, the biggest news revealed was that the away kit next season will be pink! Tough Scottish skipper Craig Easton is not impressed! And there's a generation of English batsman that would't argue with these two!Moving on then from the pink thing, CEO Tara Brady confirmed that to return home fans to the North Bank would always cost the club money as due to safety and security measures the stand would have to be sold out at every match!Tilly has been paid up to the moment he got the Lincoln job even though he believes he warrants another years wages, yet he'll get no more from Ron, but there's no problems on that score with Brushy.Moving on to team matters, relegation into back in to League Two cost the club around a million quid a season so promotion is a priority but when the injury crisis hit, we were not under a transfer embargo, we could have brought players in and they do believe we will pay them, as we pay the club involved not the individual. Luggy just doesn't trust the kids from top clubs any more after the German experiment and others failed, while they will not loan out the more experienced players. As for Her Majesty's Taxman, we're up to date, but they are watching us closely, with Uncle Ron picking up the tab for all the leagal eagles involved.Tenders for Fossetts Farm and the Sainsbury store at Roots Hall will go out in May with responses back by July. A builder will be selected and talks on the contract begun. After previous statements Ron will be keeping quiet on this one until the diggers are in, but obviously still hoping for a 2012/13 opening. What he would confirm is that the stadium will have four sides. Sainsbury dosh will cover three and new funding, hopefully a well-known hotel chain, will pick up the tab for the fourth! It seems that there is one shop holding up the redevelopment of Roots Hall as talks with the others are going well, because of this CPO's will only be used as a last resort. There was then even a rumour of a mumbled apology from the Shrimpers supremo that he might not have handled things as best as he could have done over the last 18 months, but sadly the tape wasn't on so we can't prove it.
